Using Twitter to Get Traffic to Your Website
One of the best uses of Twitter is using it to get more traffic for your website. Whether your website generates revenue through advertising, services, or direct sales, more hits will mean more money. Read on for some tips to get your slice of the Twitter traffic pie.
Time Your Tweets
The fact that Twitter has an enormous number of users does not mean that they are all online and active at the same time. Hardly! You’re pretty unlikely to find much activity at 4AM EST on any day of the week. So why waste your precious 140 characters on sleeping eyes?
Instead, time your tweets, especially the ones that you know will generate the most attention, for Friday at 4PM EST, when there’s more activity on Twitter than at any other time of the week. This way, you’re practically guaranteed a much wider audience for your tweets, which should directly correlate into more traffic to your website.
Communicate AND Market
One of the easier lessons to forget is that people don’t like to be constantly advertised to, but they like to be spoken to. While it is absolutely fine to market your products and website to your followers, you should be aware that many people don’t follow you if that’s all you’re doing with your Twitter feed. However, if you’re actively engaging with them as a community and cleverly mentioning your product and your website only when relevant, you will not only garner more respect for your brand but also more sales/web hits.
A Picture Is Worth 140 Characters
Just like anywhere else, the human mind tends to be more powerfully compelled by images than just about anything else. Get a new t-shirt in stock? Put a picture of that online in a flattering fashion rather than describing it. How about a hot new book title? The front cover of the book will attract infinitely more attention than 140 characters’ worth of text about it.
You don’t have to focus just on your products, either. An image of the staff hard at work is a great way to draw interest, and will broadcast a human element of what you’re trying to do. And on a network like Twitter, where community and communication are kings, then the more human you seem the more traffic you will garner as a result.
