Home Based Business Success Mistake #1 – Not Setting Aside Work Time

This means if you say you are going to work four hours from 10am to 2pm, you should work it.

Home Based Business Success - Article Writing
You know that all internet marketers talk about using articles for home based business success. I’m going to talk to you in this article about writing an article. It’s not the easiest thing in the world to do (some may say it is), but it’s a necessary task in order to move ahead of the competition.
You can write your own articles or you can have them outsourced. If you’re going the cheapskate route, I’m sure you’re writing your own right? Are you not very big into writing? Is it a big task for you to do? I’m going to tell you how to make it a little easier on you (the easiest thing to do of course is outsource, I know I know).
First thing you need to do is sit down, get comfortable, and turn off any distractions (log out of Twitter!). What keyword would you like to focus on today? How about “Home Based Business Success“? The job now is to find out, using that keyword, what you want to write about. Seeing how that keyword is pretty broad.
You can read blogs, Twitter, ask questions to friends, visit guru’s websites, type in your keyword in a search engine and see what pops up. Use all the various avenues you typically use to find an answer to a question. From there, gather all the data you come up with and put it in a notepad file and call it home based business success. This way you know this data is for this keyword.
Take one of those ideas and try to expand on it. Make an outline if you have to or make a list of interesting tips that go along with it. From there… fill in the information with a lot of words and make it sound good. You only have to write 400 words. That’s not a lot. What you’ve read so far is a little over 300.
If you find good information somewhere or a great article, you can take that text and re-word. Don’t ever plagiarize and copy things word for word. You can take ideas and tips to re-work them, but blatantly copying them will get you in trouble. Also, make sure you put your keyword in the article a few times. This is called keyword density.
If you feel article writing is too hard, then it will be hard. Your mindset is also a factor in how you take on this task. But article marketing plays a huge role in your home based business success.
Home Based Business Success Tip - To Be Thankful and Helpful
You wouldn’t think it but one of the foundations of home based business success is to be thankful of other people and to be helpful to them. The only way you can get to the top is by yourself and the leverage of others. Thanking them along the way is only right and being helpful to others is only natural.
When you’re struggling in your home based business, who do you turn to? Maybe friends or family? But sometimes they don’t understand where you’re coming from or really what you do. They may tell you to give up and go find “a real job”. You turn to those people who understand, and they are other home business entrepreneurs. They know what it’s like to struggle, to feel lonely, and unsuccessful. They’ve been down that road before and now they’re returning favors to help others that were in their same position. Sometimes it’s not about what you get out of life, but what you put into it.
The best way of returning thanks to them is by listening to them when they have problems, read their blog, join their mailing list, and getting to know them. You want people to read your website and join your list, but if you’re not on anyone’s list… why would they join yours? THEY may not know you’re on their list, but you do. You get in life what you put out. And what will you put out? One-sided relationships?
This is a good opportunity to join meetup groups of like-minded individuals such as an Internet Marketing group or a group of Network Marketers. Be authentic when meeting people, show your general interest, take their card, and do follow-ups!
Coinciding with being thankful, there is being helpful to others. There’s someone new starting out everywhere, and once you reached a certain level of success or knowledge… you should start spreading that around. After all, someone has helped you along the way and maybe you could be that for someone else.
Ways of helping others without costing you a lot of time is to join social media networks and answering questions, writing helpful articles that aren’t intend to sell anything, and finding someone on their way up and just extending a hand of welcome.
By helping people, this doesn’t mean you should let them take advantage of you. You still have to maintain your own business and personal life. So set aside time each week to help and keep to the time you allotted.
Don’t forget to thank the little people when you’ve reached the top!
Home Based Business Success - You Should Learn Negotiating Skills
You really wouldn’t think negotiating skills are needed for your home based business success. However, it’s imperative to at least know the basics especially if you ever plan on taking your business offline (either now or in the future). You’re constantly selling yourself and this may include your services, so negotiating is important. Not to mention it may come in handy if you’re buying high ticket items, whether it’s products or cars.
Negotiating is not just settling on the price of something, it is also reaching a goal or managing something. Also, the word usually embodies something that is negative. However, negotiating should be a positive experience because you’re trying to compromise with someone so you both reach a goal. You will be dealing with customers, other home business entrepreneurs, as well as people you look up to such as “gurus” or other Internet Marketers. You could negotiate a JV deal or an email swap.
Negotiating is all about communication. If you don’t have communication skills, you may want to look into that first. Being shy and reserved is something that you’ll have to work through if you plan on having home based business success offline. If you plan on taking your business offline or even meeting other marketers are seminars or workshops. Communication is vital.
The secret to good negotiating is LISTENING. It’s not just listening with your ears, there are other factors as well. To illustrate this, here’s a study that Dr. Albert Mehrabian, of UCLA, did on the ways we communicate:
- Words: 7%
- Tone of Voice: 38%
- Body Language: 55%
If you notice; 93% of all communication is non-verbal. Tone of voice is not what we say, it’s HOW we say it, which is every bit important as the words spoken.
Start today with paying attention to all three of these things everytime you encounter someone. Once you make a habit of paying attention to all of this, the easier it becomes over time and the better you become at handling all levels of communication to ensure your home based business success.
There are plenty of websites out there to help teach you negotiation skills. I would highly recommend you work on these because you’ll never know when you may need them. Not just for home based business success but for day-to-day life as well.
Home Based Business Success - Should I Quit My Home Business?
So, you haven’t achieved the level of home based business success you have been hoping for. Should you quit? Sure! Why not! I mean, you bought all those products and they didn’t work for you. You haven’t put your website up because you’re still not sure how to drive traffic. You tried marketing on Twitter but no-one clicks on your affiliate link. You signed up for 5 Network Marketing programs and none of them have earned you a dime! Time to give up!
The home based business success products you purchased said you’ll earn so much money in a week or you can drive thousands of visitors to your website… and neither of those have happened. You opened the box up (or read the pdf file that comes with it), watched a few video tutorials, and even tried it for a week. But even after a whole week; not a penny. What a scam that product was, am I right?
You’ve spent so much time reading up on traffic driving tactics, how to write blogs, article marketing, affiliate marketing, and how everyone is so successful at these strategies! They haven’t worked for you, right? I mean, you don’t even have a website yet. How could you? There’s so much to read that you don’t know where to begin! How can anyone expect to achieve home based business success in this type of environment?
You signed up to be an affiliate to multiple programs. They’re free to join! So you signed up to Twitter and Facebook and marketed the heck out of your affiliate link. But sadly, no one clicked on them! You wrote on your own wall 20 times a day with the link and must’ve tweeted the same link 50 times! How can no one click on it and why don’t more people follow you? This thing isn’t working, right? This affiliate program must have low conversion rates or something!
I’m sure you’re in a Network Marketing membership, whether it’s a paid membership or not. They said you can make a ton of money being in one. You called all your friend and family, excited about this new opportunity, and no one joined. They said it was a scam! It must be because no one signed up to it! Maybe you’ve even tried more than one program and none of them work!
Maybe it is time to just give up making money online. You tried those products for a week, sent out your affiliate links, and even signed up to be a member of different programs. Nothing worked! It seems like the “home based business success dream” is turning out to be more of a nightmare than anything else.
Or what you could do… is quit making excuses, follow through on every product you bought (and actually implement it), and learn how to effectively use social media (which I can assure you is not spamming the heck out of people who follow you). Maybe you could get a mentor or a coach. Someone who has been in your shoes and can tell you what path to follow.
Is it time to give up? No. It’s time to get going. You’re so fired up to quit, why don’t you get fired up to start achieving the home based business success you deserve and desire?
Home Based Business Success Tip - Don’t Be A CheapSkate
Home based business success can only be determined by you, your actions, and your goals. If you have a goal in mind that you need to reach, you’re going to need tools along the way. This is no time to cut corners and be a cheapskate. You may be hurting for money right now, but the course of action you take at this moment will determine your success in the future.
You know by now that you need a website; this means you’ll need a domain, hosting, and design. You also need an auto-responder, and advertising (so people can find their way to your site). Most people look online for the cheapest possible deals and ways of skirting around monthly fees. Why would you want to pay someone for using their services, when you can get them for free? Well, I’ll tell you that if you want to achieve massive home based business success, then it’s better (in the long run) to actually pay for some of the services you’ll need
You want to use their services for convenience, stability, and reputation. If you go with an extremely cheap domain company and hosting account, then that is the type of service you’ll receive. They may have no technical support and a lot of downtime. You may have issues with your account, lost domain information, and countless other problems. Your best bet is to find a good domain service (like godaddy or namecheap) and a quality hosting company (like hostgator). You still shouldn’t pay more than $15/year for domains and no more than $10/month for a host (for start-up sites that is).
Proper website design is very important for achieving home based business success. For your website design, sure you could do it yourself if you know how to build sites. Or you could install wordpress and start blogging, or you could hire a website designer and have them take care of it for you. This way your site looks professional and you look like you should be taken seriously. You don’t have to spend thousands of dollars on a site design. Shop around. Typically local businesses charge more, and if your best friend’s daughter’s best friend says she can design it.. that’s nice. But don’t mix business and friendship. Hire someone you don’t know, this way you can boss them around or tell them you don’t like something without hurting their feelings.
Next… your auto-responder. This is one of those investments that you make now that will pay off in the future. You can try using the auto-responder that comes with your host (which I DO NOT recommend) or you could try one of those freebie online versions. And there’s some cheap services out there. Remember though, you get what you pay for. You may lose addresses, they may not back-up their information, you may not be able to transfer if you change your mind, and you may have slow deliverability or none at all.
Take my advice and get a quality auto-responder now (like aweber or icontact). Build that up and use it. Work that much harder to pay covering the cost of it if it’s bothering you that much.
When driving traffic to your website, tools like Google Adwords and article/video submission are priceless. Some advertising can be free and that may be the only real thing you can be a cheapskate on (for now). But paying for traffic (or tools that help drive traffic) is something that all of us home based business entrepreneurs have to do!
Establishing you and your website in the beginning may not be easy, but if you use a combination of SEO, social media, and other marketing tools, you should be able to get your site noticed. Once you have your own product or a special event, it’s then time to pay for some real advertising.
Of course the best and fastest way of doing all of this, is to get a mentor. Sure it’s not cheap, but it will help you achieve success a thousand times faster
