Is It Ok To Fake It Till You Make It?

One of the questions that I will often hear from individuals who are just starting out in this
industry is:
“…But Devon, I’m not really an “expert”, what qualifies me to talk to others about this topic? Don’t get me wrong…I love my niche and I love talking about my niche, but I just don’t feel right “pretending” that I’m some “expert” when I really don’t feel that I am”

This is a GREAT question!

And the fact that I get it so often tells me that most of you are coming from a place of integrity with regard to building your businesses! (WOO HOO! :-) )

Anyways, here’s my answer!

More than anything else, however, it is because it will make you appear unprofessional.  And really, the ultimate rule in generating an income and pushing web traffic by using Facebook is to avoid ever losing readers.

The Facebook Marketplace functions a lot like the rest of Facebook: it’s a public, open forum, in which you can share your products and opinions with anyone that cares to see them.  In this article, we’ll go over a few ways that you can get traffic or make money using the Facebook Marketplace.

Determining What to Sell

If your business functions by selling a specific product, then figuring out what to sell on the Facebook Marketplace is going to be pretty easy. Just sell your stock!

One way that you could generate more traffic to your actual website, however, is to make mention in your Facebook Marketplace profile that you offer discounts and coupon codes on your website.  This way, people that may have bought a product from you are practically guaranteed to once they grab that special discount.

Selling Creativity as an Internet Home Business Strategy

However, if you’re a blogger or you don’t sell an actual product, then using Facebook Marketplace can be a bit trickier for generating web traffic or making money.  So – be creative!  If you’re a blogger and you can write well, you might want to consider writing generic love letters on nice paper with great ink, and selling them to people.  Alternatively, you could draw first-run pictures, sign them, and then sell those!  If your writing quality is top-notch and people are curious, then they are fairly likely to take a trip to your website to see what else is worth reading.

Just like Facebook Events, which we talked about in a previous article, the Facebook Marketplace is not necessarily the best way to make money or generate web traffic for everyone.  However, if you have a specific product that you can sell, or even a specialized service, then you stand to make a ton of money using Facebook.

Using Facebook Groups to Grow Your Internet Home Business

In our series of articles about how to get traffic or money with Facebook, we’ve explained the importance of a great profile, ways to attract new friends, and special methods of directing web hits to your website.  In this article, we will talk about a way to tap into social circles that are already primed for the niche of your business by using Facebook Groups, and why they can be a great way to boost your Internet Home Business.

The Basics of the Facebook Group

Facebook Groups are collections of businesses, individual people, and fan pages that are all dedicated to a particular thing.  These can be sports teams, music bands, or what we’re interested in: hobbies and specific interests.  Often, popular groups can have hundreds and thousands of members.  This means that if you can find a group that has the same focus as your business or website does, generating money or traffic with Facebook became easier than ever.

Should I Create My Own Group or Join an Existing Group?

Why not both?  Because there is no limit on the number of Facebook Groups that you can be a part of or moderate, there’s no reason why you should not join existing niche groups as well as creating your own.  However, you should be careful not to spam your own business or website too much, and take care to continue to always contribute to the conversation.  This way, when you do take the time to share your business or your website, it will seem relevant to readers, and you stand a great chance of making a sale or generating traffic using Facebook Groups.

As with other aspects of Facebook, Facebook Groups are not actually necessary – but they will help.  When developing your presence on social networking platforms, it helps to have as much exposure as possible.  Because Facebook Groups present one of the easiest ways to get in front of potentially very large audiences, at least taking the time to familiarize yourself with Groups will help to generate income and web traffic using Facebook.

Using Facebook Contests in Your Internet Home Business

There are few things in the business world, whether online or off, that can generate attention, new sales, and web traffic in quite the way that a contest does.  That’s why contests and giveaways are so prevalent in the advertising and business world.  In fact, one of the best ways to use Facebook to make money or to get traffic to a website is with contests.

Contests for What?

When determining what the grand prize of a contest or a give away is, the sky is really the limit.  However, there are a few things to keep in mind.  Generally, you want the prize of the contest to be applicable to your website. You also want the object that you’re giving away to actually be worth something.  You don’t need to be giving away a brand new laptop or anything, but an item of some value, whether artistic or literal, is important.

One easy way to handle contest prizes in a way that everyone likes is to give away things like cookies or other baked goods.  While you might have read this and thought that cookies are not applicable to a computer gaming blog or a hardware sales website, we emphatically disagree: cookies are always relevant.

How to Structure a Contest

The first thing you need to keep in mind when developing your contest is to never require that someone pay you or buy something from you in order to enter. This is illegal! Instead, offer anyone that wants to play an easy way to join.  A great way to do this is by the built-in Facebook feature of Events.  One idea is to create the event for a date in the future, and have everyone register on your website by that date.  This way, you’ve generated web hits, and people are bound to come back the day of the contest results to check and see if they’ve won.

While contests aren’t a necessary thing to do in order to conduct a successful Internet Home Business strategy, they are a great way to generate positive attention and add a little fun to your organization.

Using Facebook Events to Promote Your Internet Home Business

A great way to draw attention to your business or website that we haven’t touched on in our series about making money and generating traffic using Facebook is by utilizing the Events feature. Events have the unique position of being located in their own spot on every users’ home page on Facebook, meaning that if they were invited to or are going to an event of yours, then they are guaranteed not to miss it. This means that there will be a ton of exposure.

Creating Events

Just because you could create an event for every little thing you’re doing, however, does not mean that you should. What you can create events for, however, are just about anything that is out of the ordinary. Hosting a special event inside of your store? Are you or your business appearing at a community event? Then create an event for it, or broadcast the already-existing event to your followers!

Another reason to create an event is to promote a sale or a contest. If you’re going to have a 25% all inventory sale for a specific period of time, or if you’re hosting a contest, then creating an event is a great way to keep people informed.

Promoting Events

Nobody likes attending a party that no one else shows up to. With this in mind, it’s important to invite a lot of people to any event that you’re a part of. One of the great things about Facebook for generating money or web traffic is that you can very easily invite your entire friends list to any event you’re a part of – simply click “invite friends,” and that’s it!

Once you have a number of people set to attend, feel free to send them a message or post on the event wall a request to have them invite their friends. If your event is a great one that has people excited for it, then they will very likely invite most, if not all, of their friends list.

Maintaining Events

Once you’ve created your event and have invited a number of people, you’re not quite done. If you take care to monitor the wall section of your event, where people can ask questions and make comments, then you’ll encourage them to come and bring their friends. Another great way to keep people interested is to post pictures from prior events that your business or blog has held, because people love images.

Regardless of how you ultimately use the events feature, it remains a powerful tool for building web traffic and generating money using Facebook, and should be used for any serious Internet marketing strategy. Although it may not be relevant for every business or blog out there, it can be a tremendously powerful tool for those that learn to use it effectively.

Expanding Your Social Network Size to Improve Your Internet Home Business

There are literally tens of millions of active users on Facebook. How many of them are on your friends list that you can advertise to? In this article, we’ll go over some of the better ways that you can expand the reach of your social network, and why doing so should be a key part of your Internet Home Business strategy.

Using the Friend Finder Tool

Facebook comes with the wonderful Friend Finder tool feature, which will allow you to search out and befriend just about anybody using different search criteria. You can search through your email list, your instant messenger, buddy lists, or even your business’ interests for new followers and friends – and you should take advantage of all of them.

Usually when people receive a friend or a like request, they will take a moment to see what the product or the person is. Utilizing Your Website

Another major way that you can increase the number of people following you on Facebook is to add a button onto your website that will allow people to either Like or Share posts or your profile with their friends. How NOT To Use Facebook in Your Internet Home Business

Facebook is a great place for connecting people, telling them about your business, and using that attention to generate web traffic and make sales for your business. Arguably, Facebook is one of the best platforms to launch several aspects of your Internet marketing strategy.  It’s great for telling people about upcoming promotions and events that you will be involved in.  It’s also a great market research tool.  However, despite all of the wonderful uses of Facebook for generating web traffic and making money, there are many things you should not use it for – and we’ll go over a couple of them in this article.

Facebook is Not Spambook

People did not sign up to Facebook so that they could be spammed by business owners and bloggers.  While it may be tempting to bombard every person you find with a sales or blog pitch, you should avoid this at all costs.

This is because you’re mostly just going to irritate people, and there’s no better way to guarantee that you’ve permanently lost a reader or business than by irritating them.  You should definitely note that spamming doesn’t just include sending them a ton of mail messages.  That’s right – even status updates, if they happen too frequently, can be considered spam.

Instead, carefully consider the frequency of your posts.  It is advisable to come up with a strict schedule for posts, and to stick with it.  Broadly speaking, never post on Facebook about your blog or your business unless you’re offering a special discount or have a brand new post up.

Don’t Disparage the Competition

While the freedom that Facebook offers makes it very tempting to say whatever is on your mind, there are definitely some things that you should keep to yourself.  One of those things  is the competition.  Regardless of their blunder or the offense committed, you want to let them take care of their own business.

That’s because when you make a negative post about someone or something else, some of that negativity is perceived by the reader as being yours.  So if you say that your competition is shady and dishonest, at least some of your friends will consider you to be shady and dishonest.  Because of this, it’s a good rule to only post about yourself or businesses not related or competing with your own.

Just like with the ways you should be using Facebook, there are many in which you should not be that we didn’t cover here.  However, so long as you treat your followers and their preferences with the respect and care that they deserve, then you’ll be on the right path to making money and generating traffic with Facebook.

How to Use Facebook in Your Internet Home Business

If you’re looking for a way to get traffic or money with Facebook, then there are a number of different things that you can do, and a whole bunch that you shouldn’t do.  Our next two articles will focus on just these things, and if you follow them, you’ll be up and making a killing in no time.

Socially Marketing Your Website or Product

As Facebook is a social networking platform, the best way to use Facebook is AS a social networking platform.  What this means is that users on Facebook haven’t joined the website to have products actively sold to them.  While you certainly can use Facebook to generate traffic to your website and produce sales, you need to provide something in addition to your sales and blog pitches.

One way that you can do this is by tapping directly into what people on your friends list are talking about, and generating content on that.  Sometimes, your posts should just be a part of the conversation and not actively pitching something.  Make sure, however, that they are interesting posts!  A good ratio to follow is for every three or four normal posts, post once about your website or blog.

Finding and Connecting to Others as a Part of Your Internet Home Business

The other major way that you can use Facebook to generate traffic and make money is by finding people with interests that are aligned with the niche of your business or website. Facebook actually makes this pretty easy, and will even suggest people for you to add as a friend.  So long as they have the same interests, feel free to add as many people as you like! The whole idea behind Facebook is to embrace as many people as possible, so you may as well take direct advantage of this.  Keep in mind, however, not to spam them.

While there are many, many other ways that you can use Facebook for web traffic or making money, these are the two biggest and likely to be successful ones.  Feel free to experiment, but make sure you have these bases covered first.  In our next article, we’ll go over the opposite of what we talked about here – what not to use Facebook for.

Ok, a quick point that I forgot to mention in the video

I’m NOT saying “don’t have goals” and I’m NOT saying “don’t test and tweak” what I’m saying is that you have to COMMIT to making the tasks associated with your business part of your lifestyle!

Of course you need to adjust your approach as you move forward in order to get the best results the fastest…but the truth of the matter is that most of us come at things by asking the WRONG question initially.

The question you need to ask yourself isn’t…

“If I do XYZ for a certain length of time, how much money will I make?”

Instead, say to yourself…

“I’m gonna make doing XYZ part of my lifestyle and commit to doing it (and getting better at it) everyday”
