Finding Your Niche As Part Of Your Internet Marketing Strategy
Before you can begin generating a great deal of traffic to your website, you first have to know what type of traffic you’re going to be generating. You can’t, for example, sell lemon-flavored prune juice to everyone – it has a very specific demographic. Similarly, regardless of what you’re trying to do with your website, you will have the most success if you have a particular demographic, or niche.
Some websites, like Amazon.com and Google, don’t really have a demographic or a niche. They are used by just about everybody. However, these are exceptionally rare cases, and are almost suicidal to be attempted by a new website.
Generate Content Based on Your Interests
What are you, as an individual, particularly interested in? There are surely several different things that captivate your mind when you’re not at work. Building a website and your Internet marketing strategy along the lines of an interest like this is a great place to start.
Why? Because you already know the ins and outs of the hobby or the field, and thus, you will be able to answer many of the questions that your fellow hobbyists may have. You will also have a great idea of what potential keywords should be (see our article on keywords). By building a website based around your interests, getting traffic to your website will be easier than if you built it around almost anything else.
Generate Content Based on Your Expertise
Alternatively, you can choose to generate the content of your website based on what you’re really good at. Possibly, you’re a pro in the wood shop, and you have a ton of great crafting ideas. Maybe you’re an expert at designing stained-glass windows. Regardless, if you’re really good at something, then your expertise and great ideas alone will be enough to generate traffic to a website, provided that you follow our other traffic-generating advice.
Once you have your niche decided, getting more traffic to your website is simply a matter of lacing your content with keywords, getting linked, and remaining vigilant in updating.
